Blitz interview with the head of the Boryspil elevator of Agro-Region Group, Vitaliy Shevchuk

How did your team perform in the crisis situation, particularly regarding the storage of grain when the market shifted?

Vitaliy Shevchuk: The team performed very professionally and responsibly. We were able to ensure the storage of grain at a high level of quality, adhering to all sanitary and technical standards. We also adapted to changes in the market and utilized all opportunities for the efficient sale of our products. We maintained constant communication with our clients and partners, informing them about our services and terms of cooperation.

How has your management style changed? Has it become more strict or, conversely, more democratic?

Vitaliy Shevchuk: My management style in the crisis situation became more flexible and adaptive. I tried to find a balance between strictness and democracy depending on the circumstances. I considered the opinions and suggestions of my team but also made quick and bold decisions when necessary. I upheld high standards of quality and productivity but also showed empathy and support to my employees who were experiencing difficulties.

How important is team unity?

Vitaliy Shevchuk: Team unity is very important. When we work as one organism, we can be more effective, productive, and creative. We can also support each other, reduce stress and conflicts, improve morale and mood. Team unity helps us to survive the crisis and emerge from it stronger and more cohesive.

How do you motivate your team?

Vitaliy Shevchuk: Motivating the team is one of my top priorities as a manager. I try to motivate in various ways depending on the situation and the needs of each employee.

Here are some examples of how I do it:

  • set clear and realistic goals for the team and each of its members, as well as define success criteria and performance evaluation;
  • provide team members with sufficient freedom and autonomy in task execution, trusting their professionalism and competence;
  • recognize and commend the achievements and successes of the team and each of its members;
  • praise for the quality and productivity of work, as well as for the contribution to the company’s development;
  • provide constructive and timely feedback to help employees improve their skills and professional development;
  • create a positive and friendly atmosphere in the team, promoting mutual assistance, cooperation, and trust.

What influenced your choice of profession?

Vitaliy Shevchuk: I studied at the Odessa National Academy of Food Technologies with a specialization in “Technology of Grain Storage and Processing,” where I gained deep theoretical and practical knowledge. I also had the opportunity to intern at various elevators and grain depots, where I became acquainted with the real working conditions and problem-solving.

I lived in a village and from childhood, I loved the agricultural sector. I was always interested in the processes of cultivation, harvesting, storage, and processing of grain. I had good knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, and computer science, which helped me in studying the specialty. I also had developed organizational, communication, and leadership qualities necessary for future work.

I always aspired to career growth and professional development and wanted to work in a modern and prestigious company that would provide opportunities for learning, further education, participation in interesting projects, and events. I also wanted to have competitive wages and social guarantees.

What do you value most in the team and the Agro-Region company?

Vitaliy Shevchuk: Professionalism and high-quality work. I am proud to work in a company that is a leader in the agricultural market of Ukraine, which produces and exports high-quality grain and uses modern technologies and innovations. I also respect my colleagues, who are experts in their field, constantly learning and developing, performing their tasks at a high level.

I value team spirit and cooperation. I feel part of a strong and cohesive team that supports each other, shares experiences and ideas, solves complex problems together. It is important that the company fosters a friendly and positive atmosphere.

I also appreciate the opportunities for career growth and personal development. I am grateful to the company for providing me with the opportunity to learn, improve qualifications, participate in interesting projects and events. I also appreciate that the company recognizes and acknowledges my efforts and results, encourages me to self-educate and self-improve, entrusts me with new and responsible tasks
