Ukraine has a lot of bright, young, modern entrepreneurs that really care about their reputation. But we also have a lot of people that have a different philosophy and believe that market economy is some sort of arena where only the fittest survive. We in Agro Region are practicing a Swedish business philosophy where one strives for a win-win situation.
We implement state-of-the-art technology in all our operations, as we believe that technology is having and will have a huge impact on agriculture. We use the latest equipment, we buy the best and newest seeds on the market and we continuously test new crop protection, satellite services, drones, etc.
We rely on young people who are eager to learn, to progress, treat their colleagues with respect and have high moral standards. And, most importantly focus on process management and make sure everything is properly planned well in advance.
We treat everyone with respect and have created a highly motivating environment. The financial part is important and we keep that at market leading level. There is also a social package: extra days of holidays, health insurance, free meals and good coffee, free accommodation, nice open-space offices and lots of after work activities: sports, education, traveling, etc.
We have a complex business in remote areas and we need reliable people that take initiative and make decisions on the spot in a split of a second, if needed. Our organizational structure is flat and we encourage new ideas to be brought from all layers of the company.
Ukraine and its people have gone through a massive economic hardship. Some of our employees have lost their lives defending the country. It is our duty to import the best and the most honest and socially responsible business practices at such a critical time of development of Ukraine. We have a mission to help build a New Ukraine. A New Ukraine that does not pay bribes, that does not pay salaries in envelopes. We pay market leading land rents and help support social infrastructure in rural areas we operate. Honesty is our be the best policy.
Our company has gone through its fair share of disastrous, very costly mistakes. We expanded too quickly and did not manage risks properly. We acquired too many non-core, absolutely inefficient assets. We experimented too much with different varieties of crops, seeds, fertilizers. We hired wrong type of people at the start, naively relying, on their massive ‘experience’. We perhaps trusted local authorities too much, at times, when this trust was not deserved. In the end, we are blessed to have gone through much of that, in order not to repeat the same mistakes again. No pain, no gain.
