Innovative technologies affect the efficiency of agricultural companies

23. 09. 24

The binary approach—growing multiple crops on a single field to achieve synergy—could become revolutionary for increasing yields.

This opinion was expressed by Volodymyr Kravtsov, COO of Agro-Region, after attending the “AgroForsage 2024” conference organized by AgriLab at the Poltava-Sad enterprise.

According to him, the event primarily focused on how innovative technologies impact yield and the efficiency of agricultural companies, which prospective soil treatment technologies are emerging, and how new crop varieties enhance stress resistance, among other topics.

As for the presentation on binary planting, it sparked the most discussions within the professional community.

However, Volodymyr Kravtsov added that Agro-Region is not currently considering implementing such an innovation, as it requires technological re-equipment, which would significantly reduce the daily productivity of their machinery.

“One of the most effective mechanisms for increasing productivity today remains expanding the area under irrigation,” he noted.

Kravtsov also mentioned that the event impressed with its high level of organization and served as an excellent platform for exchanging experiences and establishing new partnerships.

In turn, Yuriy Lysak, Chief Agronomist of Agro-Region, added that during the Field Day, participants were introduced to various solutions and approaches used by the Poltava-Sad enterprise to diversify its business, considering the challenging arid farming conditions.

This forces the company to seek effective solutions to mitigate the negative impact of weather conditions. These include binary planting, the use of various hybrids, experiments with planting density, increasing the area under irrigation, and cultivating niche crops such as coriander, baby potatoes, and baby carrots.

Poltava-Sad demonstrates that even in unfavorable weather conditions, it’s possible to maximize yield per hectare, and there is much to learn from their experience, Yuriy Lysak concluded.
