March 22 is celebrated as World Water Day every year. The event, established at the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, brought together thousands of initiatives on all continents, especially in the agricultural sector.
A large amount of water is used to support the growth of agricultural crops worldwide: plants are forced to absorb more and more water to sustain their growth at a time when this resource is becoming increasingly scarce.
As noted by Elicit Plant, a pioneer in developing solutions to combat water scarcity, innovations are needed to meet the growing demand for water, including natural molecules such as phytosterols, which help crops consume less water while maintaining high yields.
In turn, the Agro-Region Group of Companies, which embarked on the path to sustainable development in 2020, included effective water management and wastewater treatment in its roadmap until 2030, among other measures.
